...New AVIATION...
.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Saturday)
Issued at 119 AM CDT Fri Apr 4 2025
Key Messages:
- Isolated to scattered strong to severe storms late this evening
through Saturday morning.
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are affecting parts of Val
Verde Country as of 115 AM CDT. These types of storms are expected
to continue to affect parts of Val Verde and Edwards Counties for a
few more hours. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect through 5
AM CDT for those two counties. Otherwise, after 5 AM, things should
be quiet as far as strong to severe storms are concerned.
Isolated to scattered showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm is
possible across the Hill Country including areas along the I-35
Corridor during the morning period. Convective activity could start
along the I-35 Corridor along a surface boundary that sits across
South Central Texas during the afternoon. However, the main round of
strong to severe thunderstorms comes tonight into Saturday morning.
SPC Day One Convective Outlook highlights a slight risk of severe
thunderstorms (2 of 5 risk) along and north of a Del Rio, La Pryor,
Luling and Giddings line. Main severe weather threats are large to
significant hail of 2 inches in diameter or greater and damaging
wind gusts of 60 mph. In addition to the severe weather threats,
pockets of heavy rain are possible and could lead to ponding of
water over local roadways and poor drainage areas.
An upper level storm system over the southern part of Arizona is
forecasted to push to the southeast today and into the Southern
Plains during the day on Saturday. This system will be responsible
for the severe weather late tonight into Saturday. A surface low
develops late tonight into Saturday morning along the Rio Grande
increasing surface winds. The low pushes to the east throughout the
overnight period and day time on Saturday. Breezy to gusty
conditions are expected with winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph with
areas along the Rio Grande as high as 30 mph with gusts of 25 to 35
mph.
The severe weather threat continues along and east of Highway 77
during the morning period with some scattered showers and a few
thunderstorms returning to the Rio Grande and southern Edwards
Plateau.
Highs today range from the upper 70s across the Hill Country to near
100 over the southern portion of the Rio grande. Saturday`s high are
forecasted to be much cooler with mid 60s across the Hill Country to
the low and mid 80s across the Coastal Plains.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday night through Thursday)
Issued at 119 AM CDT Fri Apr 4 2025
Key Messages:
- Gusty northerly wind through Sunday morning.
- Wind chills in the mid 20s to mid 30s Sunday morning, followed by
lows in the 30s and 40s Morning morning.
Breezy and cold conditions make a comeback Saturday night into
Sunday morning behind a strong cold front. A strong pressure
gradient continues through Sunday morning, relaxing throughout the
day. This will lead to continued windy conditions overnight with
sustained northerly wind from 15-25 mph with gusts over 40 mph for
some, especially out along the Rio Grande. Lows range from the mid
30s to around 40 degrees for the southern Edwards Plateau and Hill
Country and from the low to mid 40s elsewhere. In the coldest
locations, wind chills this night will be as low as the mid 20s.
Quite the whiplash from the previous days low temperatures.
As mentioned before, winds will decrease through the day Sunday but
still be on the breezy side through the afternoon. Highs will be
cool ranging from the upper 50s and low 60s north to the mid 60s and
low 70s south. Winds drop off Sunday night into Monday bringing
another night of cold temperatures with the Hill Country and
southern Edwards Plateau again seeing lows in the 30s.
The workweek starts with mild temperatures mainly in the 70s Monday
with a day by day warming trend then seen through late week. By
Friday, highs are expected to be back in the upper 80s to low 90s.
No rain is forecast in the extended period.
